Angel
A winged, anthropoid species with avian familiars. They are known for being highly intuitive but prone to anxiety.
Argema
The nearest country to Actias. Its native language, Argemish, is commonly spoken in several surrounding countries, including Actias.
Cambion
A theriocephalic anthropoid with a matching animal familiar. Individual cambion species are referred to as wolfmen, catmen, rabbitmen, etc.
Cant
A language specific to a species, so that members of the same kind may converse with each other (often for privacy or secrecy) even if they speak different common languages.
Familiar
An alternate body, often in the form of an animal, that a creature or person can shift to and from at will.
Gryphon
A winged creature with the face of a bird and the body of a feline. There are many different wild and domesticated varieties. Large gryphons can be ridden, but only by experienced riders.
Human
An anthropoid species that would be wholly unremarkable if not for their high intelligence and creativity. Though they typically come in earthy tones, some may have hair in a magenta color known as “amaranth” or “Pavonian pink.”
Huntsman
A peace officer. The chief huntsman is known as the "Huntmaster" or "Master of the Hunt."
Magician
Historical.
Once revered practitioners of arcane and supernatural abilities, now bygone fodder for children's nursery rhymes.
Pavonia
A country far away from Actias.
Pigweed
An unflattering epithet for a human with amaranth hair.
Scraperby Plural: scrapersby.
One who scrapes by. An informal demonym for an inhabitant of Actias.

Signaculum
A metal identification card, typically worn around the neck in a leather pouch. "Sig" for short.
Sphinx
Winged creatures with man-like faces and feline bodies. They and their familiars come in a variety of shapes, sizes, and colors. Though capable of speech, they are better known for making excellent guards than for being conversationalists.
